Early voting in the primary election begins tomorrow, Saturday, June 14. The polling place is 401 State Street, and the polls are open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly support Margaret’s vision for the Council. It’s simple: focus on the matters that affect Hudson and put the voice of our residents first. For some reason still unclear to me Hudson seems to be a magnet for outside drama, attention, influence. Be it predatory developers looking for taxpayers to foot their investment, billionaire nonprofit tax avoidance/social engineering projects, dark money astroturfing SuperPacs, or bored Greenport residents… And Tom has opened the floodgates and turned the council into a political theater—which may be entertaining to local activists and Gossips commentators alike, but it has caused division in our community and the actual business of the council has been neglected. We are facing serious budget and revenue issues, crucial infrastructure projects, and taxes that make the city unaffordable, yet still won’t be enough to cover mandatory spending. Meetings go on too long and half the council remains silent in a catatonic state because some lobbyists see our city as an easy target for grandstanding social media photo ops for their next fundraising campaign. Enough is enough.
ReplyDelete🫠A funny side note: in today’s mail received an election mailer from the NY WFP endorsing specific Hudson candidates, which to me is a handy list of who not to vote for: Tom/Kamal, non contributing council members, and failed supervisors. The funny part is how the flier is an obvious generic plug-n-play template they use for any election or office across the state, promising “higher wages, bold action on climate change, and fighting for healthcare.” Um, since when does local government have anything or any authority to deal with that? It’s just a perfect example of what’s currently wrong with many of our incumbents; outside donor funding to distract voters with national/international politics while ignoring the real issues actual residents face.

ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to vote for Margaret. I'm also looking forward to voting for Joe Ferris. Imagine having thoughtful and capable elected officials in all three of Hudson's executive positions. We actually might start getting some shit done around here.
ReplyDeleteThere is also the possibility of electing a substantially better Common Council this time , and people should start thinking about running next term, The move to June primaries from September means that the next election will be upon us faster than anyone realizes. Half of the do-nothing Council Members run unopposed, due to the fact that no one else bothered to throw their hat into the ring.That needs to stop.
Her commitment, honesty, and vision are unparalleled and the City of Hudson will be lucky to have her.

ReplyDeleteI recall that Tom bought a house in Missouri and will allegedly be moving there in a few years. Why trust someone who doesn’t plan on living with the consequences of their policies? And why cling on to power for so long? Hubris.
