Vote Early and Vote Often
TheNew York Timesreported yesterday that New York City has been chosen to receive $3 million in preservation grants from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The novel thing is that the public gets to decide which of 40 preservation projects get part of the funding. Since many Gossips readers have beloved places in New York, I'm passing along the information. Go to Partners in Preservation to find out what the 40 projects are and to vote for your favorite. You can vote every day until May 21. The four projects that get the most votes will split $1 million. An advisory committee will decide which sites will share the remaining $2 million.
This blog takes its name from the 1850 novel by Hudson author Alice B. Neal. The original Gossips of Rivertown cast a gimlet eye on Hudson society in the mid-19th century. More than a century and a half later, the new Gossips carries on the spirit of the original, but in a different genre and with a different focus.
