Private Profits Versus Public Safety

The Register-Star picks up an Associated Press story about the efforts to impose safety requirements on the "bomb trains": "Influence Game: Shaping railroad safety rules."

  1. One way to decrease the possibility of a chain reaction during a derailment; place a rail car with a non-flammable load between each of these potential rail bombs. It would drive the rail hump operators nuts but it's only a small inconvenience for a large increase in safety.
