Met the young men doing the film this morning on Robinson St. The film is a drama about teenage bullying. They are using the gray house with the red shutters across the street from my project as a backdrop. Last night when I got home late from taking the New York Bar Exam (man what an ordeal that was!), a young man in that house introduced himself, and asked if I was the movie director, and that he wanted to be in the film. :) I felt sad in having to disabuse him as to the raison d'etre of my presence on the street, but wished him luck with his aspirations. Bit by bit I am getting to know everyone on the street. It's been great.
When we first bought a house in Hudson a man knocked on the door early one morning and asked if he could rent my car to be in his movie. He was from a German (I think) film studio shooting up the street on Union. At first I thought he was asking ME to be in his movie (coffee hadn't kicked in yet). I was happy to lend him my car for the day and got a kick out of the idea of my car being in a movie, even if it was one of several in a parking lot scene and in a movie I'd probably never see. I had to laugh at myself later for thinking for even a second anyone would want ME in their movie especially when I think about how I answered the door - in my pajamas sporting fresh bed head and what was surely a pre-caffeine vacant expression. If only he had been looking to fill the role of "village idiot" I might have a different story to tell. Word to the wise - be ready for your closeup because around here in Hudson you just never know!
Speaking of cars, and as an update, my partner Dan's black SUV-like Kia WILL be in the movie. It was parked in front of the grey house during the shooting, which we witnessed because when we wanted to use the car, we were asked to wait for about 20 minutes until the shooting scene was over. Later, when we were going back to the car from The Secret Gardener on Warren Street, Dan notice that the front of the car had NY license plates. That confused us, since the car has CA plates. It turned out that the movie guys had taped an NY plate over the CA one, to enhance the verisimilitude of the scene. We now have an extra NY plate in our possession. :)
