Holiday Cheer

The Register-Star reports today on a sting conducted by the New York State Liquor Authority and the Hudson Police on December 23: "Eight bars allegedly serve booze to minor." In the sting, a nineteen-year-old was sent into nine bars and restaurants in Hudson to order a beer. The minor was served at eight of the establishments: Wunderbar & Bistro, the Warren Inn, Mexican Radio, Baba Louie’s, Ca’ Mea, Swoon Kitchenbar, the Red Dot, and Spotty Dog Books & Ale. It's interesting that the only restaurant that did not serve the minor was American Glory.

  1. I find this kind of "sting", on Dec 23rd mind you, an enormous waste of resources and a real insult to the community. Most of these bartenders were charged with "Improper Dealings with A Child". Really?? Is this necessary? Are they keeping Hudson safe or making a nice chunk of change for themselves?? If Hudson had a real problem with minors getting hammered at Wunderbar, I know the owner would deal with it. That goes for most of the bars in Hudson. How about dealing with Real Problems that effect this community - not a "sting" - meh cash advance.

  2. Hudson just seems to be living up to its centuries-old habits of vice.

Serving alcohol to minors probably is one of the (relatively) less serious bad acts in Hudson -- but only in comparison, say, to the police chief (James Dolan) helping the local drug dealers ply their trade.

Any crackdown on criminal activity in Hudson is a good thing.

  3. I wonder how American Glory escaped? And I wonder how old the 19 year old assisting the police looked? And I still can't understand how you can join the army, go to war and be shot dead at 18 and yet you can't have a beer in a bar. Nuts.

  4. catholic charities? don't they have other things to investigate?

unfortunate as many involved in this are normally diligent and very decent people.

  5. Indeed, and an obligatory ticket for serving a minor would have been penalty enough, if one follows the logic that these are criminal deeds. But they had to wag their finger in the face of decency and stack an additional class-a misdemeanor on them. That is outrageous.

  6. From what I've heard, many of those who make these major decisions "at the top", look at the comments made on the Register Star online version. I would make a suggestion that more people respond there. On this story alone the over-whelming response opinion was negative, thus not showing the Hudson Police Department in the best light.
