Not to Be Missed

Shailer Evans, retired HCSD teacher, former president of the Hudson Teachers' Association and chief negotiator for the teachers' union, and president of the Board of Education in the late 1990s and early 2000s, has a letter to the editor in today's Register-Star calling on the HTA to accept a salary freeze: "Do the right thing." The letter voices an opinion shared by many: "The economy is in the dumps for many while teachers make a good salary. . . . Make a generous and substantial offer to help the community. It is the right thing to do."
