This Month's Common Council Meeting

Some people showed up at last Tuesday's Common Council meeting hoping to witness the chaos and dissension that characterized last month's meeting. They were disappointed. According to reports (Gossips wasn't there), the Council managed to discuss and vote on fourteen resolutions in under fifty minutes, without raised voices or finger pointing. In fact, everyone was so subdued and soft spoken, it is sometimes hard to hear what they are saying in Dan Udell's video, which was released this morning and can be viewed here

A moment of levity occurs at the end of the meeting, when Ellen Thurston rises to comment on a typo in one of the documents. Jonathan Lerner was referred to as the chair of the Conversation Advisory Council instead of the Conservation Advisory Council. Thurston says she wasn't aware that Hudson had a Conversation Advisory Council but is glad to learn of it and expresses her hope that it will help to improve the quality of discourse in Council Chambers.
