Mixed Messages

Yesterday, on Memorial Day, this meme appeared on my Facebook home page.

Also on Facebook yesterday, I learned that the Rock Solid Church will be returning to the Flag Day Parade to celebrate all those many years of war.

  2. What do U S fighting forces have to do with any form of Christianity? This nation separates Church and State, it is principle of the "founding fathers" ---who, by the way were in their float also. This symbolism is not accurate and is (right wing ish) propaganda. Oversimplified, overgeneralized and possibly willfully ignorant nonsense. Doesn't the best of any religion value peace over war, justice over intolerance, love over hate, etc. etc. What would Jesus say?

  3. What do US service personnel have to do with any form of Christianity? Separation of Church and State is a basic principle of US democracy. That is a FACT, not an opinion. I believe there was also a float with the founding fathers on it, why?

  4. Rock Solid Church's float is simple propaganda of the right-ish sort. Using nationalistic symbols like our military uniforms and our founding fathers and equating these symbols to Christianity is misleading. Doesn't the best in every religion favor peace over war, love over hate, justice over intolerance, wisdom over ignorance, truth over fear ?

  5. Nothing new here, religion has been used for political manipulation and mind control for generations. Capitalism has been equated with goodness, Christianity and virtue, while competing economic systems and cultures are associated with evil and the demonic. These associations are handed down through the generations, and Christian goodness is now synonymous with militaristic conquest and the export of Capitalism. As a result of this brainwashing, most Pentecostal churches follow and support the lowest forms of demagogic Capitalism, supporting corrupt politicians that are the complete antithesis of Christianity.

  6. There are good wars and there are bad wars; good religious people and bad "religious" people; good socialists and bad socialists; etc. You can find evil under any rock. Jesus had his Judas. The world has had its Hitlers. Condemning religion or capitalism (or socialism for that matter) for the evils of war is painting with a wildly broad brush.
