MidHudson News reports today that the Hudson Housing Authority will receive $312,317 in funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for needed capital improvements: "HUD funds 20 public housing agencies in region."
Lynne Patton, HUD regional administrator (and formerly Eric Trump's wedding planner), who visited Bliss Towers in April, is quoted in the article as saying, "It is imperative for housing authorities to 'leverage these dollars to spur the private investment necessary to put public housing on a sustainable platform for future generations.'" That statement is a paraphrase of the first sentence explaining the RAD (Rental Assistance Demonstration) program on the HUD website: "RAD allows public housing agencies to leverage public and private debt and equity in order to reinvest in the public housing stock." HHA is currently pursuing a RAD conversion.
