What's Happening Tonight

This morning, Gossips received word that the the Common Council Housing and Transportation Committee meeting, which was scheduled to take place at 6:45 p.m., has been canceled. The Youth, Education, Seniors, and Recreation Committee meeting is still expected to happen at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Also tonight, there's a public information meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. about the Empire State Trail. Most of us in Hudson already know the route the trail is taking through the city--entering from the north on Harry Howard Avenue, heading down the Dugway to Mill Street and then Dock Street, turning south on Front Street to Allen Street, then going up Allen Street to Third Street, and finally turning right onto Third Street and on out of town on Route 9G.

At tonight's meeting, however, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is presenting what it is calling "the preliminary concept for a section of the Empire State Trail from Route 9G in the city of Hudson to Delaware Avenue in the Town of Greenport." It's a open house meeting which will "highlight the conceptual plan and components of the project, as well as the project schedule."

The meeting takes place in the Professional Academic Center at Columbia-Greene Community College, 4400 Route 23, in Greenport.

Also tonight, the public hearing continues on the proposal to build a giant gas station, truck stop, and "cafe market" at the intersection near Bell's Pond. This is the third installment of the public hearing. Dan Udell's videos of the first two can be viewed here and here

People are urged to attend the public hearing to ensure that the proposed development is in keeping with Livingston's long-term plan to protect its rural heritage and to persuade the Livingston Town Planning Board to make a positive declaration, which would make preparing an environmental impact statement on the project a requirement. The public hearing begins at 7 p.m. at Livingston Town Hall, 119 County Route 19. For more information, visit LivingstonConcernedCitizens.com.

  1. Empire State Trail, great, a new group of ladnlubbers to frustrate "free and easy access."
