There's Still Time to Get on Board

If you've heard wonderful things about last spring's Hudson History Bus Tour, you have a chance to be part of the autumn edition of the tour next Sunday, November 10.

The tour, which visits historic buildings and features people, scandals, and memorable moments in Hudson history, will be similar to the spring tour but promises to include more anecdotes and stories and more information about Hudson's waterfront. The bus for the autumn tour is smaller, with comfier seats and larger windows for better viewing. The tour will include a visit to the Robert Jenkins House, built in 1811 for the son of one of the original Proprietors and now the home of the Hendrick Hudson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Once again, indefatigable researcher and local historian John Craig will be the tour guide, backed up by Hudson natives Dick Tracy, at the wheel of the bus, and Gary Sheffer, who will regale tourists with stories of their families and their childhoods growing up in mid-century Hudson. According to Sheffer, "Hudson is hot now, but in many ways it has been a fascinating place for more than two centuries. There have always been people who saw Hudson's beauty, its gritty and friendly nature, and its potential. The history of the city has ups and downs and unexpected outcomes, and our tour will bring it all to life with narration from experts who know its amazing story."

The Hudson History Bus Tour takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 10. The bus departs promptly at 1 p.m. from the Hudson Brewing Company, 99 South Third Street, and returns there three hours later. Tour participants will receive a ticket for a free drink at the brewery at the end of the tour.

The tour is a fundraiser for the History Room at the Hudson Area Library, to support the preservation, archiving, and digitizing of items in the library's special collections pertaining to the history of the City of Hudson, as well as that of the towns of Greenport and Stockport. There are just a few seats left on the bus, so to purchase a ticket and secure your place, visit the Hudson Area Library website hudsonarealibrary.org
