Gossips' list of meetings and events for the week, published yesterday, omitted something: the hand count of all votes cast in the Fifth Ward, in particular those cast for the office of alderman. After the absentee ballots were counted on Wednesday, June 30, incumbent Dominic Merante led Rebecca Borrer by three votes: 56 to 53. A margin that close requires a hand count of all the ballots--those cast in early voting and on Election Day. That count will take place on Thursday, July 8, starting at 10:00 a.m., at 401 State Street.
