Meetings of Interest in the Week Ahead

It's the first week of April, and, despite the old saw about April showers and May flowers, the sun is shining. Here is what's happening on the meeting front this week.
  • On Tuesday, April 5, the Conservation Advisory Council meets at 6:00 p.m. A topic of discussion for the meeting may be how to fund this year's Arbor Day observance, since the Tourism Committee of the Common Council decided last Wednesday that the event did not qualify as tourism. The meeting will be held virtually. Click here to join the meeting on Zoom.
  • On Wednesday, April 6, the newly created Housing Trust Fund Board meets at 3:00 p.m. The Housing Trust Fund Board is made up of Tom DePietro and Nick Zachos, who as Common Council president and interim director of the Hudson Housing Authority respectively serve ex officio on the Housing Trust Fund Board; Angellic Innamorato, lead organizer with the Hudson Catskill Housing Coalition; Usha Berlin, owner of Handloom Batik, 532 Warren Street; Dustin Duncan, professor of epidemiology at Columbia University who was recently also appointed to the Planning Board; and former First Ward alder Rebecca Wolff. A Zoom link has been provided on the City website, so it can be assumed that the meeting will be virtual. Click here to join the meeting.
  • At 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, the Hudson Industrial Development Agency (IDA) holds its regular monthly meeting. The presentation of the hotel being proposed by the Galvan Foundation for the corner of Warren and Fourth Streets, which was postponed in March, is on the agenda. In March, it was indicated that the proposal for the hotel at 601 Union Street would be presented in April, depending on the outcome at the Zoning Board of Appeals. The ZBA granted a use variance for 601 Union Street on March 16, but that proposal is not on the agenda for Wednesday's meeting. The meeting will be a hybrid--held in person at 1 City Centre, Suite 301, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
  • Also on Wednesday, April 6, the Common Council Legal Committee meets at 6:00 p.m. The March meeting of the Legal Committee was taken up with a discussion of adjusting ward boundaries in response to the 2020 census. It is not known what the Legal Committee will be discussing this month. The meeting will be a hybrid--in person at City Hall, 520 Warren Street, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
  • On Friday, April 7, the Historic Preservation Commission meets at 10:00 a.m. A public hearing on the buildings proposed by Galvan for the Depot District, which was supposed to happen on March 25, was postponed, but it is not yet known if that hearing will take place at this meeting. The meeting will be held virtually. Click here to join the meeting.
Update: It has been confirmed that the public hearing on the compatibility of the buildings proposed for North Seventh Street will take place at this Friday's Historic Preservation Commission meeting.

  1. From the city website: "For financial year 2022, the Tourism Committee will award a total of $51,000.00 in funding to support events and projects that promote Hudson as a tourist destination."
