Ever Get the Feeling of Déjà Vu?

Last year, on October 5, the Hudson City School District announced it was canceling the remainder of the varsity football season "due to lack of eligible participants." Tonight at 7:00 p.m., the Hudson varsity football team was scheduled to play an away game in Glens Falls, but, according to the calendar on the HCSD website, that game has been canceled.

A post that appeared on Facebook explains why.

One wonders if this means that once again HCSD will decide to cancel the remainder of the varsity football season.

  1. This is where the DEI rubber meets the academic road. DEI is the new juggernaut of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, which has rolled over many of academic standards, moving the goal posts on state tests ever closer to midfield. So far, ironically, DEI has not changed the academic standards for our school athletes, most of whom are governed by the independent National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Sounds like it's fourth and inches. --peter meyer

    1. Sorry to be so cryptic, but my guess here (and I only have second hand information) is that when the rules of the NFHS (or whatever the rules of the Patroon Conference, which Hudson is a member of) were enforced, Hudson couldn't field a team that met the "student athlete" rules. Of course, we don't know for sure. It would be nice to hear more since BlueHawk football has a storied tradition. --peter meyer

  2. Perhaps this has more to do with the fact that Hudson doesn't have enough young people to field a team anymore.

The town is a historical relic that is content to rely on tourism of it's dubiously valuable "historic" buildings rather than build new housing and encourage industry and jobs.

If you old folks want a highschool football team, you should've read the writing on the wall when Columbia Memorial closed its birthing center.

Young people leave Hudson. There's nothing for them there except being wage slaves to a neurotic and abusive class of failed NYC restauranteurs.
