The Time Has Come

After COVID and many other construction complications, the meticulously restored red barn across Front Street from the train station, now known as The Caboose, is celebrating its opening on Tuesday, September 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will include a ribbon cutting, brief remarks, a tour of the new space, and refreshments.

This is the final step in the adaptive reuse of the buildings at the corner of South Front and Cross streets. Kitty's Market opened in Fall 2020, and Kitty's Restaurant in Spring 2022. Now the updated, 100 percent carbon neutral barn building, which houses an event space, wine store, and spaces for other community activities, will be open, too.

The project received a Market NY grant in 2019, and a NYSERDA Carbon Neutral Community Economic Development program award in 2021 for the mechanical and energy systems. Representatives of NYSERDA and Empire State Development will be present for the event, and there's a chance Governor Kathy Hochul may be there as well to celebrate this exciting adaptive reuse project that will be a model for the region and the state.
