Two days before Thanksgiving, the Common Council held a special meeting to vote on the 2014 city budget. Of the eleven members of the Common Council, only five showed up--Council President Don Moore and aldermen "Doc" Donahue (Fifth Ward), John Friedman (Third Ward), Ohrine Stewart (Fourth Ward), and Abdus Miah (Second Ward). To make a quorum, Alderman Cappy Pierro (Fifth Ward) had to be summoned from his home in Taghkanic, and those assembled had to wait for him to get there. John Mason has the story in today's Register-Star: "Budget cuts, low mandate hikes keep city taxes down."
Some significant news revealed in the article, which seems not to have been announced anywhere but on her Facebook page, is that Cheryl Kaszluga is the new sole assessor for the City of Hudson. She was appointed by Mayor Hallenbeck and sworn in on November 22.
