This evening at 6 p.m., as a prelude to the three-day orgy of music in Hudson that is the Hudson Music Fest, the River Ensemble, a classical trio made up of violin, cello, and trumpet, will perform in a tent on the lawn of the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Warren and Fourth streets. The concert is a benefit concert with the proceeds to be used to repair and restore the historic stained glass windows in the church's Warren Street facade.
Far from claiming that its business is ministering to the spiritual needs of its congregants not preserving a historic building, the First Presbyterian Church, with a membership of about 50 and a doggedly determined Friends group, is committed to its monumental historic building, which dates from an era when the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson was the largest and most affluent congregation in the entire Hudson River Valley. The church desperately needs the support of the larger Hudson community in this noble effort, and it richly deserves it.
