Remember how magnanimous George Dejesus was when it was discovered that the Democrats had failed to file one of the documents necessary to get Nick Haddad on the ballot? He said at the time that the citizens of Hudson deserved a choice, but now it seems that the only choice he wants the voters of Hudson to have for mayor is Bill Hallenbeck.
Dejesus and Hallenbeck have filed objections to the opportunity to ballot petitions. The basis of their objections is that many of the same people who signed the petition to get Haddad on the ballot in the first place also signed the opportunity to ballot petition, and people cannot sign two petitions for the same office. According to Victor Mendolia, the Democrats had been assured by their attorneys that the original petitions for Haddad were null and void, and therefore the people who signed those petitions were free to sign the new petition. If the two Columbia County Commissioners of Elections, Virginia Martin (Democrat) and Jason Nastke (Republican), cannot agree on a ruling, the issue will go to court. The commisssioners were meeting last night to consider this objection as well as other challenges to candidates' petitions, but so far there is no word on whether or not they have reached any decision.

If memory serves me right, something like 75% of all the election-rule related lawsuits in America are filed in the State of New York.
