Sidewalks for Hudson, No Sidewalks for Greenport
A week ago, the Register-Star reported that the City of Hudson had received its Safe Routes to School grant to build sidewalks on Harry Howard Avenue. Today, Joe Gentile reports on why the Town of Greenport did not: "Town narrowly missed out on sidewalk funds." One bit of information that was left out of Gentile's report on a conversation with Greenport supervisor John Porreca is that the maximum amount that could be awarded to a project was $500,000. (Hudson received $415,000.) Had the grant application been made for both Hudson and Greenport together, the award would have been inadequate to complete both parts of the project.
