Meetings of Interest in the Week Ahead

With just twenty-eight days until the return of Daylight Saving Time (March 8) and thirty-nine days until the first day of the spring (March 19), there are lots meetings coming up this week.
  • On Monday, February 10, the Common Council holds a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall on two pieces of legislation: Local Law No. A of 2020, which would impose a six-month moratorium on the creation of any new short-term rental facilities, and Local Law No. B of 2020, which would defund the Tourism Board and direct all revenue from the lodging tax into the general fund. The hearing takes place at City Hall.
  • Also on Monday, February 10, the Common Council holds its informal meeting at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. It is likely that the two resolutions from the Housing and Transportation Committee--the first to authorize the vacancy study that is the first step toward adopting rent control regulations in Hudson and the second to sell the vacant lot at Fourth and State streets for developing affordable housing--will be introduced at this meeting.

  • On Tuesday, February 11, the Hudson IDA (Industrial Development Agency) will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at One City Centre, Suite 301, the offices of CEDC (Columbia Economic Development Corporation).
  • Also on Tuesday, February 11, the Planning Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street. The meeting will be devoted to the requests from A. Colarusso & Sons for conditional use permits for the dock and the haul road. Click here for more information about the agenda for the meeting.
  • On Wednesday, February 12, the Hudson Housing Authority Board of Commissioners holds its regular monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Bliss Towers.
  • On Thursday, February 13, Hudson Community Development and Planning Agency (HCDPA) will meet at 10:30 a.m. at 1 North Front Street. It's possible that the involvement of HCDPA in the future development of the lot at Fourth and State streets will be a topic of discussion at this meeting.
  • On Friday, February 14, it's Valentine's Day. Enjoy it with the one you love.

  1. We accepted the Strategic Housing Action Plan (SHAP) in 2018. I still ask why we haven't actually implemented anything in it. Before spending money on implementing rent control in Hudson, why can't the Housing & Transportation Committee dig and start to roll out this plan first. Such as, appointing a housing coordinator, which I've said before, we could look to share services with the County; and then implement the 4 overall goals of the SHAP: 1. Preservation of Housing; 2. Create a Comprehensive & Complimentary Housing Policy & Zoning; 3. Production of New Housing Opportunities; 4. Creating Housing & Community Development Programs & Partnerships.
The Strategic Housing Task Force spent a lot of time and gathered this to implement, not to vote on and shelve it.

Once we have a coordinator in place, let's have that person brought into the conversation as to whether or not a rent control study should be one of the tools of the overall goals? Why are we looking to spend money on a specific study before using the data that was already gathered?

    1. Where can we find a copy of the SHAP? And what happened to the DRI housing report?

    2. The Strategic Housing Action Plan is here: http://hcdpa.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Hudson-Strategic-Housing-Plan-2018.pdf I'm not sure what you mean by the "DRI housing report."

  2. Defunding the Tourism Board is Proof of the council, particularly the president, NOT supporting Small Business
