The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. Since yesterday, there have been three new cases and two recoveries, increasing the number of active cases by one to thirteen. Two more people are hospitalized with COVID-19 today than there were yesterday, but no one is in the ICU. There are three more county residents in mandatory quarantine and one more in precautionary quarantine. It has now been 124 days since there has been a death from COVID-19 in Columbia County.
Pretty high infection rate, based on State averages. Still our County Health Department does not share infection rates. Two front-page stories in today's Register Star (10/13/20) make the county's failure clear. One story, headlined, "NY Covid Infections dip to lowest since September," has a dozen references to infection rates. The other story, headlined, "Official: Virus cluster an `uptick' in Columbia County," has not a single reference to infection rates.
