The Columbia County Department of Health has not reported the county's COVID numbers since Friday, September 3, and the news today is not good. Since Friday, there has been another death from COVID-19, bringing the total to 99, and 41 new cases. There are ten more active cases today than there were on Friday, from which it can be inferred that, over the weekend, thirty county residents have recovered from the virus. There are five fewer county residents in mandatory quarantine today than on Friday, but there is one more hospitalized. The number in the ICU remains the same as on Friday.
The New York Forward dashboard is reporting a positivity rate for Columbia County yesterday of 8.5 percent and a seven-day average of 2.7 percent. By comparison, the daily positivity rate for the Capital Region was 5.9 percent and the seven-day average was 4.6 percent.
On September 6, 2020, the CCDOH reported 1 new case of COVID-19. The total number of cases was 546, and the number of active cases was 4. There were 18 county residents in mandatory quarantine, and none was hospitalized or in the ICU. The total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 at this time last year was 37.
Could these new numbers and deaths be related to the anti-vaxx shindig in Claverack? As reported, the last death was someone under 40 years old and unvaccinated - a warning if there is one.

DeleteThanks Carole. That maybe true but the numbers continue to climb thanks to the campaign to discredit vaccines and masks. The NYT Dashboard for Columbia County ranks us at Very High Risk - recommends that even the vaccinated wear masks (their notes). The county is 63% fully vaccinated for all age groups. Evidently, enough to infect 24 people in a day. It doesn't have to be like this. Politicizing vaccinations is extremist ignorant ideology.
