The Fate of MOD

Hudson was abuzz last night with the news that MOD Restaurant had closed yesterday, involuntarily, without warning or due process. The story, as Gossips heard it, is that restaurateur Dana Wegener had a verbal agreement with the building's owner that, in exchange for the investment Wegener and her partner had made in upgrading the restaurant space, MOD could occupy the space rent free for the first year. It seems, however, that the owner had a change of heart, because when Wegener arrived at her restaurant yesterday, she found it padlocked. There's a rumor that Joe Fierro, owner of American Glory, wants to open an Italian restaurant in the space.

  1. When is Fierro ever going to do anything at 5th and warren besides build a fence and store his truck ?

Looks like he has enough on his plate he can't finish!

  2. This is very sad news. Mary and Dana worked so hard and put heart & soul into their sweet, homey and neighborhood appropriate place. MOD was an asset to front street and Hudson and will be missed. Good Luck and Thanks Mary & Dana & Mod!

  3. Let's hope the "rent-free" clause was written into the lease.

  4. I cannot believe that anyone would get into a deal like that on the basis of a verbal agreement. Ya gotta write it down and sign it....!

  5. Good old Joe! Just what Hudson needs, another Italian restaurant. I'm sure the owners of Ca Mea, Vico and Baba Louie's can use some more competition. "How to win friends and influence people" is how Mr. Fierro lives his life. And I'm sure some residents of Hudson will again say, "competition is good for Hudson".
