Gifford's Grave--Before and After

It's only a matter of time before the grass grows in and the restoration of Gifford family grave site is complete. Thanks to Peter Jung for providing the photographs and the initiative to undertake this project in Hudson's historic cemetery.

  1. Truly an act of humanitarianism and respect...whether the deceased were of fame or anonymity. Far too little importance and attention is paid to the decline of gravesites of those who have gone before us. These photos give the viewer and warm and respectful feeling. Becky S.

  2. We're going to plant flowers soon, would be happy to take suggestions for which varieties we might select. So far I'm thinking daffodils, day lilies, purple iris....

Is there a variety that blooms late, into September?

  3. Peter--Have you considered consulting with a landscape historian--Robert Toole comes to mind--to find out what would have been typical for a 19th-century family burial plot? You've made such a commendable effort to restore the stones. It would be nice if the entire site could be restored to what Sanford Gifford imagined it would be.

  4. Salvia starts to bloom in mid-June and continues right up to the first frost. They are fairly insect and disease resistant. As a plus, butterflies and hummingbirds love salvia, especially the red varieties.
