Of Interest

In a letter to the editor in today's Register-Star, Timothy O'Connor of the South Bay Task Force takes issue with the schedule outlined by Common Council President Don Moore in a statement issued in May 19 for the GEIS (Generic Environmental Impact Statement): "Retract fictional schedule."

According to Moore's statement, "The public and other involved and interested agencies must be given a minimum of 10 calendar days to comment on the accepted FGEIS before the Council can consider a SEQRA Findings Statement--which concludes the SEQRA process. The Findings Statement must be presented to the Council no more than 30 days after publication of the Notice of Completion." O'Connor maintains that the State Environmental Quality Review Act mandates no such time limits.

  1. The Task Force has worked long and hard to keep the ecology of the South Bay in the forefront of the waterfront plan, where it might have been buried under legions of legalese and 'opinions'. I'm glad that someone is on top of the GEIS, FGEIS, SEQRA and all the other rules
which are incomprehensible to a lot of us
