On his blog, Sam Pratt reviews the City of Hudson's past handling of federal grant money and relates it to Tom Swope's statements about the Lantern Organization: "Failing upward (or, Learning from L&B)."
Tom Swope is naive to think that continued government funding means an organization must be doing well and doing good. Once a nonprofit makes it into the public/private funding world they are rarely dislodged from the money stream. Any nonprofit with a well connected Board, connections to local, state and federal representatives, a very good audit firm, staff pilfered from funding agencies, and senior staff wired into foundations is rarely scrutinized. Hmm.
Sam continues to shine light were it is needed. Thank you both for the good reporting - one forgets about the HUD abuses too easily.

ReplyDeleteIt's rumored Hudson was the second largest grant recipient in NYS via a Buffalo connection.
