Trump and Us

Last September, Gossips reported that Roadsnacks.com had named Hudson the most redneck city in all of New York. Here's another blow. Last week, the New York Times published an analysis of support for Donald Trump among voters throughout the country: "Donald Trump's Strongest Supporters: A Certain Kind of Democrat." The report posits that "[Trump] is strongest among Republicans who are less affluent, less educated and less likely to turn out to vote. His very best voters are self-identified Republicans who nonetheless are registered as Democrats."

The report is accompanied by a color-coded interactive map (not interactive as it is reproduced here) showing "Republican voters estimated to support Trump." All of New York appears in the darkest shade, signifying that the estimated percentage for the entire state is more than 37 percent. The estimate for the 19th Congressional District (that's us), discovered by clicking on the map in the actual article, is 40 percent.

  1. I am well aware of this map, and did find it shocking. I wonder if this will be a realigning election, as even more blue collar whites segue into the GOP, and Wall Street Journal type Republicans leave, both of which trends have been in play for years.

  2. I don't understand why Gossips finds this surprising. The RealClearPolitics average of polls nationally has Trump today at 41% (vs. HRC at 47% in a head-to-head matchup). The 19th Congressional District is almost exactly in line with the rest of the country.

    1. Yes, but don't you find it unusual when it comes to political preference maps, that NY is the same color as Mississippi is?

  3. And who "created" Trump? Yes, you guessed it not, according to the guy below - caustic liberal elites, gays, the usual suspects. Interesting theory, but wrong I think. I think it has more to do with the economic stagnation of those not in the top economic quintile, or decile, or whatever, and thinking that liberal elites, and immigrants, and so forth, are to blame for it. But who really knows? It is hard to get one's mind around Trump. He's just so well - different. I will leave it at that.

    1. Wait, I thought Trump is Self-created.

Yours is a whole new take on the subject!

  4. What a great way to campaign - by calling the people you are trying to win over as "less affluent, less educated and less likely to turn out to vote." A winning strategy I'm sure.
