And the Winner Is . . .

Last fall, after ten years of holding public office, first as Third Ward alderman (2006-2011) and then as Third Ward supervisor (2012-2015), Ellen Thurston decided not to seek reelection. Two weeks from today, on Sunday, April 24, Thurston's decade of service to Hudson as an elected official will be celebrated and honored at a cocktail party and fundraiser presented by the Hudson Democratic Committee.

The event will also be the occasion for the inauguration of the "Ellen Award," an annual tribute to a member of the Hudson community who has demonstrated "exceptional public service and advanced the vision of the Hudson Democrats: Progress for All!" Thurston will be the first recipient of the "Ellen," an award named for her.

The celebration and award ceremony takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. on April 24 at the home of Sarah Sterling, 243 Union Street, and will feature wine and hors d'oeuvres and entertainment by Trixie Starr. There are unconfirmed rumors that there may be Ellen cookies from Trixie's Oven, now famous for the coveted Bernie Sanders cookies.

The Ellen Awards promises to be one of the most talked about events of the season. So, if you wish to make your appearance on the red carpet (figuratively speaking), get your tickets now. Click here to do so. The suggested donation is $25.
