Help to Get Through the Winter

Some years ago, I realized that my favorite winter holidays were not Christmas and Valentine's Day but the Winter Solstice and Groundhog Day. I celebrate those days because they are reminders that the darkness and cold of winter aren't forever.

Today on WAMC, Bob Berman on Strange Universe identified six milestones to help those of us who hate the darkness and cold of winter make it through to spring. The first of those milestones happens this Thursday, with the earliest sunset of the year. On Thursday, the sun will set at 4:23 p.m. After Thursday, the sun will begin to set later and later each day, and days will seem to be getting longer even though the shortest day of the year doesn't happen until the Winter Solstice.

  1. Thank you, Carole, for this very welcome news. Like you, I live for the light and the warmth. And as I write this, the sun has set, so things are already looking brighter.
