Almost Gone

This was how the building at 211 Warren Street appeared this morning at 9:00.

An hour or so ago, Michael O'Hara, who owns the building next door at 209 Warren Street, posted this information as a comment on a previous post about the building being demolished.
The house will be taken down to ground level by this evening, and tomorrow a large trailer will come to haul all of this wood from the early 19th and late 18th century to the landfill. If anyone has a use for this material, let me know and we'll arrange to have the contractor supervise the retrieval.
This is an excellent opportunity to get some two centuries old old-growth wood. If you don't know how to contact Michael O'Hara, email Gossips, and I will put you in touch.

The brick is being salvaged and kept by the contractor.

  1. I have fought too many of these battles -- and lost -- to spend much time worrying about what happened here, but I wish the ownere, at least, who were said to be decent and preservation-leaning prooprieters, would share with us the details of the undoing. It was a sad thing to see this once-sturdy part of Hudson's prosperity be chopped into relics of a town that couldn't save its history. --peter
