Elected and appointed officials in Hudson were sworn in this afternoon at the Central Fire Station--eight of the ten members of the Common Council, Council president, police commissioner, Fair Housing officer, mayor's aide, city treasurer, and the mayor.
In his remarks preceding the swearing in of members of the Common Council, Council president Tom DePietro mentioned as achievements things that have been in the works for a while but will soon finally happen: construction of the new Ferry Street Bridge, the citywide sidewalk improvement district, and a new comprehensive plan. By contrast, in his remarks, delivered while holding his younger child, Mayor Kamal Johnson cited as accomplishments the longest running UBI (universal basic income) pilot, the proposed housing projects, keeping taxes flat (there is a tax increase of 3.875 percent for 2024), the Youth Center, appointing the city's first female chief of police and first female city judge, and establishing a mental health court.
When it came time for the mayor to be sworn in for a third term, he did so with his little daughter at his side, also raising her right hand.
