Time to share another discovery from the 1905 Hudson city directory: Warsher Row. That caption accompanies this photograph, found in the directory, of the trio of buildings at 426-428 Warren Street.
Warsher Row would have been relatively new in 1905, since the buildings do not appear in this photograph, which shows the same section of Warren Street in the aftermath of the Blizzard of 1888.
Funny how the old black & white pic makes Warsher Row look better, or more romantic, or pure, while the color pic doesn't , even though there is little change in the building at all.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the fire hydrant, dish antenna and sandwich board sign in front of the shop Vince that make it not as romantic looking!
DeleteMarty, Karen Smith did a photo rendition of todays image in black and white.
DeleteIt turns out the change in trim color from the original concept, probably matching the brick, to bright white, transforms the facade to less than what it was, or could be.
