The history of the C. H. Evans Brewery published yesterday didn't mention that Hudson's third fire company, founded in 1799, was renamed C. H. Evans Hook & Ladder Co. in 1868 to honor Cornelius H. Evans. This picture shows the firehouse, designed by Michael O'Connor and built in 1889, where C. H. Evans Hook & Ladder Co. was headquartered for more than a hundred years.
The firehouse is now Spotty Dog Books & Ale. The fire company is now the focus of an investigation into the apparent theft of thousands of dollars from the fire company's funds. Tom Casey has an update on that story in today's Register-Star: "Another suspension in C. H. Evans probe."
Love the awnings - must have been a popular style back then - appears in many other pics of Hudson.
