Fair & Equal Moves Ahead

The Register-Star has an article today about the Fair & Equal initiative to reform legislative districts and do away with the weighted vote in Hudson: "1 person, 1 vote group ready to go to council." The Fair & Equal initiative would redraw the ward boundaries, which were established in 1886 when the city was quite a different place in terms of where the majority of the population lived, to create wards of equal population.

The group will be delivering signed petitions to City Hall next week, calling for a referendum on the issue to be on the ballot in November. If you have not yet signed the petition, email contact@weighted vote.com to connect with a petition carrier in your neighborhood.

  1. I signed the petition because it makes perfect sense to get rid of the current "weighted vote" formula. But let's think hard and long about what we're replacing it with. As we know from long and hard experience in our Congressional races, drawing district boundaries (Ward boundaries in our case) has its own weighted vote challenges so I hope that the 2017 Ward map as presented is not considered the defacto result of the petition success. I for one would love to see 10 wards! p meyer
