- The Columbia County Historical Society, which traces its beginnings back to 1916, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
- Fifty years ago, in 1966, Olana was saved from the brink of destruction, and in 2016, Olana is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a state historic site.
- Riverkeeper, which traces its origins back to a meeting of commercial and recreational fishermen that happened at an American Legion Hall in 1996, is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
- Historic Hudson, founded in 1996, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016, with a concert series this summer at the Dr. Oliver Bronson House and, in October, with an exhibition of Lynn Davis's monumental Warren Street Project, which was exhibited for the first time at the organization's inaugural event in October 1996.
This seems a coincidence worthy of note. Whatever is magic about years ending in 6, life in Hudson today has benefited from things initiated in those years.
