Yesterday, Will Yandik officially opened his campaign office in Greenport--in Fairview Plaza, right next door to Fairview Wines & Spirits. Mayor Tiffany Martin Hamilton, the first woman to be elected mayor of Hudson, was on hand to give Yandik her endorsement. Among the items of interest shared by Yandik with the folks who turned out to show their support and pick up yard signs was that his campaign collected more than twice the number of petition signatures required, and those signatures had been gathered by volunteers, whereas his opponent for the Democratic nomination, Zephyr Teachout, had used paid campaign workers to get her petition signatures. He mentioned something else that distinguished him from his competition--both Democrat and Republican: 70 percent of the money raised by his campaign has come from individual donors in the 19th Congressional District.
The federal primary takes place on Tuesday, June 28. The polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Voters who are registered Democrats can opt for Will Yandik or Zephyr Teachout to be the Democratic candidate in the November election, to represent the 19th Congressional District in New York. Voters who are registered Republicans also have two potential candidates to choose from: John Faso (whose campaign office is located in another Greenport strip mall) and Andrew Heaney.
