Draken Watch

According to a report received about forty minutes ago, the crew of the Viking longship Draken is setting up the mast in preparation for the journey down the Hudson River to Kingston.

It  is being predicted that the ship will pass Hudson sometime between 2 and 6 p.m. If you've got the afternoon free, you may want to spend it at the waterfront waiting for the Draken.

  1. Will you be able to provide further updates on the Draken's progress down the river during the day?

    1. I'll try, but I don't guarantee that my information will get you down to the river at just the right time. You can track its progress here http://www.drakenexpeditionamerica.com/route/ or here https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/DRAKEN-HARALD-H-IMO-0-MMSI-258111550 or go on the Hudson Community Board Facebook page, where several people are posting about its progress.

  2. WAMC has a story about it right now (noon).

Apparently the craft has some unpaid bills. Typical Vikings.

    1. Draken absolved! (apologies to the Vikings). The vessel can't afford the required pilot fees.

But the news story made the US Coast Guard look bad, when it was the Norwegian government who registered the vessel as an ocean-going cargo ship.

The story ought to have been: Why did Norway do that?! Nope, it's always easier to slam the US instead.

  3. Thanks for the tip-off Carol, we checked the website and then ran over to Clermont where we were just in time to see it. Although the sails were down, as the breeze and current were enough to take it downriver FAST.
