Good News for Historic Preservation

Two years ago, Daniel Mackay, who was for many years the director of public policy at the Preservation League of New York State, left New York to become the executive director of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation. Today it was announced that he has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to be the deputy commissioner for historic preservation in the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP). Mackay will begin his new role in late July, heading up SHPO, the state historic preservation office. For all of us here in New York who care about historic preservation and know Mackay from his days at the Preservation League, this is very good news indeed.
