Don't Fence Me In

The fence around the fountain in the Public Square (a.k.a. Seventh Street Park) is coming down this morning. This is something people have been talking about for more than a decade, but thanks for Friends of the Public Square (FOPS), it is finally happening.

Just as a reminder, this is what "Inspiration Foundation" looked like in 1975, when it was first created to replace the original 1883 Venus fountain.

  1. Please take note that a fence was erected around the fountain because a few citizens decided it would be great to place color dyes, soap bubbles, etc. in the water.
The main reason was young unwatched children would play in the water. So don’t be surprised if history repeats itself.

  2. Do we know what is replacing, if anything, the fences around the pool with the non-functioning fountain? Surely it won't be accessible to anyone, will it?

    1. I've heard many people talking about the strongest, most invisible force field ever in history.

    2. It will still be vandalized by those with superhuman powers bent on destruction.

  4. The plan is to seek community input via a series of community meetings, survey, etc… on the park and the water feature. Temporarily we will use the fountain basin as a planter. You all will have an opportunity to express a view.

    1. Seeing as winter is around the corner, can it be assumed that the planter idea won't happen for several months? Are children, or anyone else, allowed in the pool in the meantime? I don't see anything there today to prevent that.

  5. Happy to see it. The "Inspiration" fountain was not very inspiring. Hope we get something close to the original one back. And yes, jokesters are going to put soap suds, etc., or try. Cameras need to be part of the new setup.
