Expanding the Depot District?

On September 9, Gossips reported that the sale of the former Community Theatre building to Galvan Initiatives Foundation, which had been announced back in November, had finally closed.

When Galvan announced its plans to acquire the building, this statement was made about its intended use: "Galvan will develop the building as the gateway to our Depot District Initiative, a mixed-use commercial and residential development. . . ."

Gossips learned recently that Galvan Civic I, Inc., the entity that owns 202-204 Warren Street (the Brousseau Building), 364-366 Warren Street (the former Register Star building), and 51 North Fifth Street (the location of the Hudson Area Library) has purchased 612 Columbia Street, the house immediately adjacent to the former Community Theatre.

What plans Galvan may have for this little building are not known.

  1. It's feeling like a game of Monopoly around here, and guess who's winning by a whole lot? What becomes of the losers?

    1. it is easy to win if you have access to billions, and you know how to work the poverty system of PILOTS to your advantage. it is not magic, nor hard work and industry.

  2. And what is their plan for the decrepit eyesore of a house one block away at 618 State which was recently deemed UNSAFE by Code Enforcement? And what of 70 and 72 N. 5th street? And what of....

  4. Will meet it's fate like the rest, tear down to expand Galvanville. At this pace, it appears the new signage should be going up any minute .... has the smiley whale met it's match! How exactly did this happen one may ask! Next time candidates for this council and that council are making the rounds, how will you know their true intentions? Who are their backers? Perfect resumes, all the boxes checked. Looks good on paper! Let the voting begin! Oops. How is it that Galvan has unlimited purchase power? Sure, they have funds and PILOTS but who laid out the welcome mat!

    1. You ask who laid out the welcome mat? That would be former mayor Rick Scalera: https://gossipsofrivertown.blogspot.com/2010/12/galloway-and-mayor.html
