Meetings and Events in the Week Ahead

Tomorrow is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and the official first day of summer. It appears from the forecast that summer may begin with a couple of rainy days. Meanwhile, here's what is happening on the meeting front.
  • On Monday, June 20, the City of Hudson is observing Juneteenth. City Hall is closed, and the schedule for trash and recycling pickup is all postponed a day, as it is whenever there is a holiday. Despite this, the Hudson Housing Authority has a meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. This will be the last meeting of the Board of Commissioners while Nick Zachos is interim director. Jeffrey Dodson is expected to take over the position of executive director of HHA on Monday, June 27.   • At 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, the Tompkins County Democratic Committee is hosting a Candidate Forum with the three people--Jamie Cheney, Josh Riley, and Ọṣun Zotique--vying to become the Democratic congressional candidate representing the new 19th District in New York. The event will be livestreamed on YouTube. Click here to view the forum.
  • On Tuesday, June 21, the House Select Committee investigating January 6 will hold its fourth hearing at 1:00 p.m. According to Business Insider, "The fourth hearing will cover how Trump 'corruptly pressured state legislators and election officials to change election results,' featuring witnesses including Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and former Georgia voting systems implementation manager Gabriel Sterling."
  • Also on Tuesday, June 21, the Common Council ad hoc Sidewalk Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be a hybrid--taking place at City Hall and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
  • At 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, the Common Council holds its regular monthly meeting. Of interest on the agenda for the meeting are a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract for a parking study, a resolution authorizing Friends of the Public Square (FOPS) to apply for a grant for improvements to Seventh Street Park, and the local law amending the ward boundaries.   • On Wednesday, June 22, the Hudson Industrial Development Agency (IDA) holds a special meeting at 4:00 p.m. The meeting is to consider the application from Hudson Foods Venture, LLC, for exemption from mortgage tax and sales tax on construction materials and a ten-year PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes). Hudson Foods Venture, LLC, a subsidiary of White Toque, is redeveloping 7 Dock Street, formerly Towne & Country, as a USDA-approved food manufacturing and warehouse facility and a food distribution center serving the Capital Region and New England.   • Also on Wednesday, June 22, the Technology Committee of the Common Council holds its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. It is expected that the committee will continue its discussion of how to move the operations of City Hall and Hudson government into the 21st century.
  • On Thursday, June 23, the House Select Committee investigating January 6 will hold its fifth hearing at 1:00 p.m. According to Business Insider, "The fifth hearing will detail how Trump 'corruptly planned to replace the Attorney General of the United States, so the US Justice Department would spread his false stolen election claims.'"
Update: The hearing is now scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
  • On Friday, June 24, the Historic Preservation Committee holds its second meeting of the month at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will take place virtually. Click here to join.
