Ear to the Ground

Rumor has it that Quintin Cross, who did time for embezzling more than $16,000 from the City of Hudson while serving as an alderman representing the Second Ward, is going around telling people that Linda Mussmann is paying him $5,000 to do "field work" to muster support for her in the September 13 Democratic write-in primary for mayor.

  1. Carole I have to ask when did I tell you that Linda Mussmann was paying me $5,000 to do "field work". I know your moniker is "The Gossips of Rivertown" but what respectable person would be so blatantly malicious in directly targeting an individual without facts. This in my opinion is not gossip it's libel and slander. Carole to be quite honest you have nothing in common with most people in Hudson and that's alright so the people you speak to certainly don't speak to me and can't report on rumors. The fact is the only campaign that has wined and dined me, offered financial support for a community event and asked for my support was Victor Mendolia and who is he supporting hmmm. I am not running Hallenbeck, Mussmann and Haddad are keep the focus were it should be unless you have proof of something such as me getting $5,000 which is so false if she was offering $5,000 then I should of been able to get at least $10,000 from the republican turned democrat campaign!

  2. Quintin (I'm assuming you are Quintin Cross, although you don't bother to identify yourself), if you had told me this, it wouldn't be rumor now would it?

I heard what I reported as rumor from a number of credible sources, so you should know that the story is out there and quite widespread. Perhaps you should be grateful to me for giving you the opportunity and the platform to deny it.

  3. Carole I am truly greatful that you posted from a number of credible sources. The question now is whom do you deem credible. You have done a great service to the political process by allowing me to copy the "rumor" and spread it around to family, extended family and the general community in which I was raised to make them aware that this is coming from a certain political campaign in MY opinion and they will stop at nothing to keep me down so to speak. Thank you for the motivation Carole and thank you "rumor" it was a great assist in my quest to get an apathetic group of personal supporters to the polls. Very truly yours Quintin E. Cross son of Toni L. Cross and Bernard K. Fambrough grandson of Edward C. Cross Jr. and Bernice S. Cross born in the City of Hudson NY and raised at 41 North Second (Bliss Towers & Columbia Apartments)

  4. Carole, did you bother to identify your source? Why be cross with folks contributing to your blog, even if that is what their name might be? I, for one, do not thank anyone for rumours. I thank people for facts. If you print a source, you would then have a fact, not a rumour. A fact would be valuable to a community, a rumour is not, unless it is made by Lindsay Buckingham.

  5. The phone number for TSL is 822-8448. Journalists call sources and ask questions. It would only take a few seconds....

I got a "I have not paid Quintin Cross $5,000 to do work for my campaign" for my efforts!

Give her a call! That's what journalists do! You want to have the best blog ever, right? Not a blog that only covers a particular side of the story, right?

    Give her a call!

  6. I don't think calling will result in solving anything.

This subject would be perfect for anyone to deny.

  7. Vincent, calling her would elevate Ms. Osterink's work to the level of journalism, rather than partisan opinion, and would serve a tremendous community service. We have a lot of opinions around these parts, but few journalists searching for facts.

  8. Tom, the basic problem with your premise is you expect a truthful exchange.

  9. Vincent, you are wrong. The basic premise is that Ms. Osterink is either a journalist or not. Journalists call people. Ms. Osterink is lowering her credit rating. She is saying, I am not a journalist.

  10. I don't know how one does a 'credit rating' on "gossip."

  11. Carole, you're still a journalist as far as I'm concerned.

  12. Carole Osterink does far more original and factual reporting on this blog than any of her critics or scolds.

  13. Carole does have a wonderful reputation for journalism, and is often quoted by WGXC. This reputed rumor, in my opinion, is currently dead. For the moment I'm siding with Tom. Vincent, the premise that we expect a truthful exchange is true, by all of those involved.

  14. What one 'expects' in life is not always what one gets - 'truth' is an evasive commodity - especially in the world of politics.

Even in little Hudson, New York!
