Will There Be Another Tree?
The new trees around the courthouse were planted pretty late in the fall, and their survival seemed hardly assured. Miraculously, most of them survived, but the one at the west entrance to the ramp did not. Although it was obvious the tree was dead when no leaves appeared in the spring, it stood there, with a watering bag around its trunk, until at least last Thursday when I took this picture.
Today, when Joey and I walked by the courthouse on a walk about town, I noticed the tree was gone. It hadn't been removed but simply cut.
Spring would have been a good time to replace the tree, but we hope a new tree will go in at the appropriate time this fall. The perfect symmetry of the courthouse requires it.
