HudsonValley360 reported yesterday afternoon that Wheelabrator is giving up its plan to create an ash landfill across the river in Smith's Landing: "Trustees: Wheelabrator abandons Catskill project." COPYRIGHT 2019 CAROLE OSTERINK
This is great news. But it's a sign of things to come as we get closer to a trash crisis. Landfills in NY will fill up soon, and creating new ones will be rare if not impossible. Trash will have to be sent out of state or incineration will become more acceptable (DEC will push it). We are all part of the problem, but the junk has got to go in someone's backyard.
