Amanda Purcell reports about the Stewart's Shops expansion today on HudsonValley 360: "What's next for Stewart's Shops on Fairview?"
Gossips has already published most of the information found in the article, but there are a few things that are new. Members of the Common Council are expected to meet with representatives of Stewart's Shops later this week "to hash out a community host benefit agreement for offsite traffic improvements at the corner of Green Street and Fairview Avenue." There is no starting date for the project, but Chuck Marshall is hoping to open the finished store in early fall.

In this instance, "hash out" means achieving an agreement rather than solving a problem.
ReplyDeleteElsewhere in the R-S article we're left with the impression that the community host benefit agreement is for improvements to the intersection only. That's not true - or it doesn't have to be - and it's not fair, either, as it further implies that Stewart's is only self-interested.
To give credit where it's due, it was Stewart's itself that initially suggested the agreement could serve a greater purpose than merely solving proximal traffic issues.
Today, there's every reason to believe that the Common Council will take the company up on its generous offer to underwrite other, city-wide benefits.
