COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. Since yesterday, there have been 62 new cases of COVID-19. The number of active cases has only increased by seven since yesterday, which suggests that 55 more people are now considered recovering. There are 37 more county residents in mandatory quarantine today than yesterday, and two more county residents are hospitalized. The number in the ICU remains the same, and there has not been another death from COVID-19 in Columbia County since Monday.

In his COVID press briefing today, Governor Andrew Cuomo reported that the Capital Region, with 22.04 percent, has the lowest available hospital capacity of any region in the state. When hospitals predict they are 21 days from having only 15 percent available capacity, it triggers a shutdown until the spread of the virus can be brought under control.

Update: Half an hour after the CCDOH released the numbers reported above, the report was updated to include the information that there had been another death from the virus. The total number of deaths from COVID-19 is now 52.
