National News of Local Interest

The Senate has passed President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion pandemic aid bill. The vote was 50 to 49. All Democrats voted in favor of the plan; all Republicans, except the one who was absent, voted against it. The news is reported in the New York Times: "Divided Senate Passes Biden's Pandemic Aid Plan."

The bill includes $350 billion for state, local, and tribal governments. How much of that $350 billion will find its way to New York and to Hudson is not known. Back in May, soon after the original Heroes Act had been passed by the House of Representatives, Congressman Antonio Delgado told Mayor Kamal Johnson in a Zoom conversation that $2 million was designated for Hudson in that legislation. That legislation, however, which failed to pass in the Senate, designated considerably more--nearly $1 trillion as compared with $350 billion--to state, local, and tribal governments.
