On the Political Scene

The Hudson City Democratic Committee, which saw a wave of resignations at the beginning of the year, has rebuilt itself. The HCDC announced its new appointments yesterday in the following press release.
The Hudson City Democratic Committee is pleased to announce that it has made several new appointments. “We are now ready to do the work that needs to be done,“ said HCDC Chair Kate Treacy.
The four new appointees include two returning members, Dorothy Heyl and Randall Martin, who have previously served as Treasurer and Chair of the HCDC. Martin will represent the Fifth Ward and Heyl will represent the Third Ward. Appointed to fill the two First Ward vacancies are Nick Zachos and Sergio Guadarrama. Zachos is familiar to Hudsonites as the director of the Hudson Youth Department. Guadarrama has a business designing sustainable clothing with a purpose.
The four appointments are for the remainder of the two-year terms recently vacated by other members. To remain on the committee beyond October, the new members will need to submit petitions in this Primary election cycle. The deadline for submitting petitions is March 25.
The HCDC has also appointed new officers to its Executive Committee. Heyl will resume the position of Treasurer and will also serve as Acting Secretary until a longerterm Secretary is found. Revonda Smith and Kirby Crone will serve as Vice Chair and Second Vice Chair. Smith is a life-long resident of Hudson and is the current Chair of the Hudson Housing Authority. Crone is an artist who has lived in Hudson for five years and is excited to help the Committee thrive through deeper community involvement.
Dewan Sarowar (2nd Ward), Abdus Miah (2nd Ward), Shershah Mizan (3rd Ward), William Hughes (4th Ward), Kate Treacy (4th Ward and Chair), and Verity Smith (5th Ward) continue in their roles on the Committee.
