Last month, Gossips reported that the History Room at the Hudson Area Library had begun the task of digitalizing its collection of Hudson city directories and making them available online. The first Hudson directory was published in 1851, and the directory continues to be published today. The goal is to digitize them all.
The History Room has an extensive collection of the directories but not all of them. The following directories are missing from the collection:
1852 to 1861
1864 and 1865
1920
1940
1942 and 1943
1945 to 1947
1949 and 1950
1952
1954
1956
1958
1960
1963
1966
1969
1973
1975
1982 and 1983
1985
1989
1991
2001
2009 and 2010
If you have any of these directories on a bookshelf or tucked away in the attic, or if you see one of them offered for sale on ebay, the History Room wants to know about it. If you own one of the missing volumes, the History Room would like to borrow it, scan it, and return it to you unharmed. Of course, if you would like to donate it to the History Room, it will be gratefully accepted. To contact the History Room, email brenda.shufelt@hudsonarealibrary.org or call 518 828-1792, ext. 106.
