COVID-19 Update

The Columbia County Department of Health has released its numbers for today. The most stunning news is that there have been 2 more deaths from COVID-19. These are the first deaths from COVID-19 reported in Columbia County since March 3.

Since yesterday, there have been 26 new cases of COVID-19. The number of active cases being reported today is 13 fewer than yesterday, from which it can be inferred that, since yesterday, 37 county residents have recovered from the virus. There are 3 fewer county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 today than yesterday, and 1 fewer is in the ICU.

A year ago today, the CCDOH reported 12 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases was 4,183, and the number of active cases was 58. There were 97 county residents in mandatory quarantine, 3 were hospitalized, and 0 were in the ICU. The total number of deaths in Columbia County attributed to COVID-19 at this time last year was 94.

  1. It really is remarkable, COVID is shooting up and people are dying but the majority seems content in the delusion that the pandemic is over and masking is no longer needed. Are our politicians so crippled by the fear of anti-mask protests that they can't even enforce a simple mask mandate inside public buildings or schools? They should remember and take a lesson from Trumps COVID denialism, it didn't work too well for him. Perhaps they are confident the new disinformation czar will be able to convert unreality into the truth.
